OTA OIL’s Dedication
01Traditional Pressing Methods

No matter how conveinient the times become, we remain committed to meticulous craftsmanship. Since our founding in Meiji 35 (1902), we adhere to the traditional “cold-press method” in our oil production.
“Cold-press method” involves applying pressure to oil-rich plants such as egoma (perilla) to extract their oil; the resulting oil is known as the first pressing (ichiban-shibori in Japanese).
At OTA OIL, we continue to craft our specialised oils while upholding our status as a supplier to the Imperial Household Agency and Ise Jingu.
02First to commercialise egoma (perilla) oil for consumption in Japan

In 1988, through joint development with research institutions, we found that egoma (perilla) oil-previously used only for industrial purposes-contains abundant omega-3 fatty acids. We became first in Japan to commercialise for food use.
For this achievement, we received the
“Industrial Technology Award” from the Japan Society for Lipid Nutrition.
OTA OIL is the pioneer of “Egoma (Perilla) Oil”.
03Collaborative Initiatives with Producers of Hokkaido

All domestically sourced egoma (perilla), flaxseed and rapeseed used in our products originate from Hokkaido. As for rapeseed, domestically produced raw materials account for a mere 0.15% of the harvest compared to foreign-sourced materials, making it an exceptionally valuable ingredient. We utilise domestic raw materials to support Japanese agriculture.
We travel directly to Hokkaido, engaging with local producers’ dedication and passion to source higher-quality raw materials. We deliver carefully cultivated harvests, meticulously pressed, grown with minimal use of pesticides and featuring manual weed control.
04Our Initiatives as a Member of the Local Community

In Okazaki City, Aichi, where our head office is located, our egoma (perilla) oil and rapeseed oil are used in school meals.
Furthermore, we offer activities such as factory tours for local primary schools and members of the public to deepen their knowledge about oils and health, and to learn about our environmentally conscious resource recyclying initiatives. Together with the local community, we will support health in this world of 100-year lifespans.
