OTA OIL’s ‘Takumi no Toyu’ is a highly penetrating natural coating oil exclusively for wood,
made from 100% vegetable oil based on 純正荏油, which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

Usually one coat is sufficient to achieve the desired finish. More coats can be applied in layers to achieve the desired finishing colour. Ensure good ventilation during oiling and drying.
NOTE: Wipe off dust, dirt, debris, etc. from the wood surface before applying.
Drying time varies according to season, wood types, moisture content, humidity, etc., but should be between 24-72 hours. ‘Takumi no Toyu – Saisoku’ takes approximately between 12-24 hours. If dust or debris gets on the surface after drying, wipe off with a tightly wrung wet cloth.
Rags or cloths used for ‘Takumi no Toyu’ may ignite spontaneously when left unattended. Prepare a bucket of water and submerge the cloth in the water immediately after use.
Beware of spontaneous combustion
- Used rags may ignite spontaneously if left in piles.
- Soak in a metal bucket of water immediately after use, place as is in a plastic bag, seal and dispose as a combustible waste.
Do not overapply
- Do not overapply. When overapplied, drying will be very slow. Refer to the standard usage amount.
- Always wipe dry thoroughly immediately after application to ensure that no excess oil or pigment remains on the surface.
- Wipe the applied surface until it is not sticky and the coating oil does not stick to the skin.
- As natural products and pigments are used, the colours may shift or fade if rubbed on clothing, etc., even after drying.
- Colour and finish may vary depending on environmental conditions such as types of hardwood, temperature and humidity, and drying time may be significantly delayed. Always apply a trial coat to the same piece of wood to check drying and finish before use.
- Do not apply curing sheets or similar to the applied surface before it is completely dry. The drying process will stop and the coating will not dry.
